Easybird Auto-Feed Trap: Features and Benefits

Easybird Auto-Feed Trap Features and Benefits

Simply, this is a fantastic automatic trap designed to deliver a reliable shooting experience as and when needed. It will save your arm and help you improve your shooting.

Some of the features that make the EasyBird Auto-Feed machine make it ideal for daily usage include the 50-clay removable magazine, a cycle time of 1-second, and fifty feet release cable as well as the foot pedal.

It may also be lodged on the two-wheel Trap taxi offered by Champion Range. And it runs on a typical deep-cycle 12-volt battery. Here are some of its key features and benefits:

  • Can be connected with the EasyBird wobbler/oscillating base
  • Quick 1-second cycle time
  • Single stack, separable 50 clay magazine
  • Can throw 108 mm or 110 mm international targets
  • Compatible with the Champion Trap Taxi
  • Powered by a 12-volt deep cycle battery
  • Adjustable range of 55 to 65 yards
  • Arm safety ring for a safe throwing course
  • A safe way to uncock an arm
  • 50-foot release rope with a foot pedal release
  • A 30-amp circuit breaker to protect the motor and electrical wires

Assembly

The Champion Easybird auto-feed model is easy to assemble but it requires a socket wrench and a few adjustments to cycle the best. The instruction manual and details could be a little clearer, but you’ll clearly understand how it works once you break a few clay pigeons.

If you’re doing it alone, it might take a few hours to pull together the wobbler, oscillating base, and trap. Some users stated that it would probably take 30 to 45 minutes to set the trap alone.

To move it or mount it, you’ll be looking into making a wheeled base, which can be pretty difficult to manage even with two people. But this will help enhance the quality of the unit.

Remember to pay attention to the clay target holder rods when assembling, otherwise, the unit may occasionally fail to launch a bird on the thrower’s arm.

You can create some excellent scenarios with the 50′ release cord. Additionally, you can crank the spring tension up really far, even close to the maximum tension so clays reach 70-75 yards. It’s such a blast!

Overall, this trap really enjoyable, especially with the oscillator and the wobbler. Plus it is easy to operate; as soon as you press the button, clays start to fly out. Though a bit pricey, it’s worthwhile and a great way to strengthen ties with loved ones and friends while outdoors.

Performance

The Easybird trap system is designed to work flawlessly. In order to launch clays at various heights and enhance the quality of your shooting experience, you will be wise to incorporate the wobbler kit and the easybird oscillating base.

Both come with a separate control so you to operate the thrower when stationary when only moving up and down, when only moving sideways, or when moving in different directions.

Another good thing is that the machine loads quite nicely and empties broken/jammed clays on the subsequent cycle so you won’t have to deal with any broken clay.

It is a fantastic companion for target practice or just having fun shooting. With it, you can line up four shooters and throw clay pigeons so quickly that you can all have fun taking turns and assisting novices.

All you need to do is use your foot to press down the pedal, and three or four clays will be launched at once. You can do this as slowly as you wish, especially when you’re training new shooters or so. Also, consider using a deep-cycle battery for this because it does an excellent job.

The Foot Pedal

Compared to the 25′ on the Wheely model, the foot switch wire in this unit is 50′ long. That means on the Easy Bird, the reset takes substantially less time, which makes the whole thing efficient and user-friendly. The foot switch is long enough for maximum control.

Overall, you won’t be spending so much less time fiddling with the thrower; save that for shooting. Just put the battery (marine deep cycle) on a meter and then the wobbler. Although it is a bit heavy without the battery, it has space for a cooler, a few cases of clay, and a case of shells.

Portability

Portability

Coming down to portability, the Easybird Auto-Feed system has its fair share of downsides.

Despite being marketed as “Lightweight and Portable,” this machine is fairly large and heavy. It is transportable, yes, but you’ll have to consider the storage part of it and how you will get it to the shooting range.

In addition to that, the foot pedal trigger is based on the 50′ remote release cable, which is permanently connected to the gadget, meaning you might need to do some adjustments.

Some users stated that they had to snip the cable by around 3′ and then add a regular female electrical socket and a plug or cork on the other side of the cable. This can be quite tricky but on the bright side, you’ll be able to launch targets up to 150′ away depending on your settings.

Built Quality

The Easybird is such a well-made piece of equipment, just like most other Champion traps. It is very well designed and attention to detail is probably the first you will notice.

No unnecessary bells and whistles, which is fantastic especially if you’re planning to store this outside. The powder-coated steel stand appears to be 1/8″ thick and the fitting are all well set, making the whole thing easy to assemble and operate. You’ll hardly be disappointed.

You also don’t have to worry about laying the cables over mud or other undesirable surfaces because they appear to be designed for outdoor use.

Overall, you’ll be impressed by this product and it is one of the best choices you can make if you love shooting. In fact aside from the optional oscillator or stand taxi, there’s really no other way this unit could be better.

A Few More Observations

The Easybird trap thrower is a great unit and overall great value for the money, but we found a couple of issues with the design.

First: You need to be extremely cautious not to remain near the throwing arm range (front of the arm) or get your body in its path. This is because occasionally, it may cycle when flicking the off switch, and if you are in its path, it can shatter your arm and course serious injuries!

It could have been better if the manufacturer incorporated an enclosing cover over the chains and plunger on the rear side; otherwise, this is dangerous equipment, and the uncovered or rather exposed throw arm path needs to be protected in some way.

Other than that, we definitely recommend this product because it features great built quality and serves great. Just take caution, and never let anyone manipulate the controls without giving them clear instructions on how to do it safely.

Reasons to Buy a Clay Pigeon Thrower

Reasons to Buy a Clay Pigeon Thrower

On a basic level, the best clay pigeon thrower should help make shotgun shooting more enjoyable, and more affordable and even improve your shot. It should deliver the ability to launch targets and test your shooting skills.

Perhaps the best part about having your own trap is that you don’t have to pay range fees and you may go out for a shooting session whenever you want, not just when gun clubs are open.

Moreover, a clay pigeon thrower can be set for family entertainment, friendly competition, training new gun owners, or serious shooting practice provided you have access to a few acres.

There are many choices when it comes to clay pigeon throwers, so you can always get one based on your budget and shooting needs.

However, note that there’re several factors that go into choosing the best clay pigeon thrower. These include things such as where you’re planning to shoot, the kind of targets you’re planning to work with, who you’re planning to shoot with and how much you will be shooting.

For instance, if you’re a serious trap shooter, you should choose something that can hold up over the long haul. Fortunately, the Easybird automatic trap thrower boasts a great target capacity, which allows you to launch more clays without having to reload, unlike other options.

Easybird Trap Thrower: Is it Worth the Investment

Easybird Trap Thrower Is it Worth the Investment

This is an overall, great product for the money! The clay targets are thrown 60–65 yards in this amazing trap and you can have it all set up in about 45 minutes. Be sure to get the additional shooting accessories, i.e. the oscillating base and a deep cycle battery for the best performance.

On the flip side, though, the assembly instructions are not really the best and the unit is not as “Lightweight and Portable” as it is claimed to be. So keep that in mind when purchasing.

Apart from that, this machine works great out of the box and the targets are thrown quietly and smoothly without breaking. It’s a sturdily built device with good throwing power, great target capacity, and an adjustable launch angle. In other words, this unit is quite well made.
