Skiing is one of those sports that people either love or hate. But there’s no denying the fact that it’s a great way to get some exercise and fresh air during the winter. However, one thing that can put a damper on your ski day is the cold weather.

When Is It Too Cold to Ski?

There’s no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing

Sir Ranulph Fiennes

This remark is frequently used by skiers to convey their passion for the sport. And it’s true: with the correct equipment, you can ski in any weather.

But what if it’s super cold outside? Is there ever a time when it’s simply too cold to ski? The answer is that it is up to the skier. Some people are more resistant to the cold than others. Some people might have superior equipment that allows them to cope with lower temperatures. So it is ultimately up to the skier to determine whether it is too cold for them to ski.

There are, nevertheless, certain broad principles you can follow. It’s probably too cold to ski if the temperature is below freezing and the wind is super cold. Personally, I find it hard to ski when the temperature drops below 15F, which is too cold for me to bear.

However, skiers have been known to ski in temperatures as low as -76 degrees Fahrenheit, which is rather cold. Most people cannot ski in very low temperatures without specialized equipment. If you intend on skiing in temps below freezing where there might be rain on ski slopes , be sure you have the proper clothes to keep you warm.

What Is the Best Temperature for Skiing?
