I’m aware most wakeboard enthusiasts are mostly concerned with mechanical issues and ensuring their boats perform perfectly. Maintenance for them is a top priority.
And I agree that these things are by far the most important things that will ensure a happy wakeboarding experience.
But what about the cool things we do to our wakeboards to make them more unique, more fun to enjoy, and add a little curb appeal?
Take my son, for example. He has an absolute interest in how important propping a wake boat is, the ETGs, and overall wakeboard performance.
I’m also intrigued by how these machines run, but if you want to get my attention, let’s talk about adding multi-zone stereo with numerous speakers and subs. That’s my forte.
See, I’ve been an audiophile since I was a kid, always intrigued by sound technology and what it can do.
Yeah, I know the term audiophile gets thrown quite a lot, but for me, I’m more than just a music lover. I love everything about audio technology, and heck, I’m even pursuing my dream course in college (Audio engineering).
So, I remember when I got my first wakeboard, I had to do some serious upgrades to the music system.
The existing marine speakers were good, but they didn’t give me the clarity and volume I was looking for. They didn’t also project over long-range, so they couldn’t cut through the background noises.
While the cabin speakers were deafening on the deck, they were barely audible to the person holding the rope.
I was also recommended for some headphones, but I didn’t like their inconvenience. They came off way too easily. No Bueno!
But the wakeboard tower speakers were the real deal.
They’re probably the best investment I made since they projected clear audio over long distances, regardless of the background noises.
The sound also made it out there, and I could hear the music even when bouncing over the wake.
Simply put, they changed my experience behind tow and would recommend them to anyone who needs a wonderful music listening experience.
Of course, not all the tower speakers were good. I had to try a couple, trashing some and keeping some before selecting the right ones.
The good news is you don’t have to worry about the selection because I’ve outlined a guide of the best wakeboard tower speakers in the market.
Here I’ll share some of my favorite options and everything you need to know about selecting wakeboard speakers.

The Best Wakeboard Tower Speakers For The Money
#1 BOSS Audio Systems MRWT40 Marine Waketower Speaker System - EDITOR'S CHOICE
We’ll start our list of the best wakeboard tower speakers with an option from a brand that isn’t well known as others, Boss.
However, Boss does know how to build decent waterproof speakers, and the Boss Audio MRWT40 is living proof.
It’s stylish, modern looking, and, more importantly, can deliver an awesome sound, especially for its size.
Speaking of size, the Boss Audio MRWT40 proves that sometimes, big sounds don’t necessarily come from big packages.
This model is modest in size, yet the sound output and sound quality are simply surprising.
One of the reasons behind this speaker’s success in the good sound quality is the tweeter dome shape that amplifies every sound. The effect is so strong that it’ll boom your entire wakeboard with sound and that even those towing behind the board will enjoy the crisp and loud sound.
The other reason is the features integrated in the speaker.
For example, it boasts 94dB sensitivity and can handle up to 100 watts RMS for each speaker. So, it’s a total of 200 for the two waterproof speakers.
The speakers sound great running off your machine head unit, but I discovered that they truly come into their own when I hooked them to an external amplifier.
Another reason why I’m excited about these Boss Audio speakers is they’re built to stand up to the rigors of outdoor life.
The speakers come durable and consist of a lightweight poly cone woofer with a durable rubber surround. This material is soft and supple, lasting a long time while promoting better sound quality.
On the other hand, the surround is made of rubber, so it’s highly resistant to harsh elements and will perform admirably under any conditions.
Meanwhile, the internal components are specially coated and sealed to protect against moisture and corrosion, so there is no need to worry about using the Boss Audio System speakers in a humid marine environment.
Overall, the Boss Audio systems Speakers are the perfect and ready to be your go-anywhere music companion.
I find not only Boss Audio ideal for use on boats, but also the ATVs and even golf carts. They come with mounting bracket clamps and can fit bars up to 2 inches.
Plus, if you’ve extra cash to spend on the Boss MRWT40 and want something more stylish, Boss speakers offer the Boss MRWT40 with LED multi-color illumination. This version comes with wireless remote control for which you can change the patterns, colors, and so much more.

#2 Polk Audio DB692 - Budget Option
I’ve always been amazed by the sound quality of Polk Audio and the price.
The Polk Audio DB692 is my favorite speaker from this brand because it comes at an affordable price, yet, it’s better than your average speakers as it provides nice, clear, and high-quality sound and responsive music in any wakeboard.
And not only that, I can recommend the Polk Audio DB692 for any application. While I’m currently using these quality speakers on my wakeboard, I had previously used them in my truck and as home audio, and they sounded great.
They don’t offer as much bass as I would have loved, but I’m sure with a few tweaks, such as a bigger box, they would bump pretty hard to produce bass.
Nevertheless, even with the lack of bass, they blend better with a subwoofer than some premium wakeboard tower speakers.
The Polk Audio DB692 also seems to hit the sweet spot for many guys and is one of the favorite wakeboard tower speakers for those on a budget.
Besides the price, one of the reasons the Polk Audio DB692 is high up on the list is because they’re marine-certified with an IP55 rating. So, they’re suitable for fresh water and Powersports applications.
They’ll stand up to abuses and, more importantly, the dust ingress that affects most wakeboard speakers.
And that’s not the best part!
The Polk Audio DB692 is housed in a black aluminum enclosure, with black powder finish. It shields the internal components against water, so no need to worry about water splashes or even occasional dumps in the water.
Plus, the speakers are fully marinized, so they’ll perfectly hold up against the salt and the freshwater conditions.
Installing the Polk Audio DB692 is bliss, and this is because the speaker’s design has near-universal compatibility. Whether you plan to install it in your car, ATV, wakeboard, or any other application, you’ll find it easier to fit it in place.
What about the sound quality and music performance?
It doesn’t falter on this either.
The simple reason is because of the silk dome tweeters.
Each of the speakers in this pair comes with a super tweeter, consisting of silk for smooth highs. Plus, the dome design helps spread highs widely and with improved precision.
The sound output is super clear, almost too clear that you shouldn’t miss a bit even when getting thrown off the wake.
Another feature that helps with the incredible sound output is the 6” by 9” woofer cones with super tweeters.
They add a full clear range of sound, including some great bass. While they don’t hit the lows, the mids and highs are incredible, especially with some lower frequency.
The sound is balanced, too, thanks to the inbuilt crossover. It guarantees balanced and high-quality sound by ensuring each driver is fed with the appropriate frequency range.
Speaking of the frequency range, Polk Audio DB692 operated at 30 Hz to 22kHz frequency response and 93dB sensitivity. So, you can enjoy all the range and power you need from this best wakeboard tower speaker.
Meanwhile, the power handling on this wakeboard speaker is pretty robust. The 150 watts of continuous power and 450 watts of peak power handling effectively deliver more volume in a large space and when exposed to elements.
Overall, the Polk Audio DB692 is a great pick and an incredible factory replacement for your wakeboard, or even SUV, or motorcycle,
And whatever boat or truck you upgrade them on, they make a huge difference in the soundscape of your environment.
Pros
- Wide and high-frequency response
- High RMS power handling
- Affordable price, yet they offer more sound quality than regular cheap speakers
Cons
- Lacks rubber gaskets for the speaker
#3 Rockford Fosgate M282 - Premium Wake Tower Speaker (Best for Sound Quality)
If you need the best wakeboard tower speaker that can bump out extra power, the Rockford Fosgate M282 might just be the speaker to look out for.
While I agree the Rockford Fosgate M282 is pricier than most speakers on our bundle, they’re worth every penny.
Everything aside, keep in mind the Rockford Fosgate M282 is from one of the reputable brands in the music community.
Rockford is a trusted name in the industry, and if you frequent the audio gear forums, you’ll realize their name pops up quite often. It’s for a reason.
But does that warrant the high price tag on the Rockford Fosgate M282?
Let’s find out.
One of the standout features of the Rockford Fosgate M282 is how they blend a list of awesome and high-quality features that deliver neat sound that conquers the open water.
For example, the powerful 8″ driver, marine-grade enclosures, and innovative technologies will work together to produce high-quality and reliable sound output.
The separately mounted speakers in high-density polyethylene sealed stainless grill can take on a beating without breaking down.
Plus, the speakers will stand up to exposure to the humid conditions.
And the good thing with the enclosure is its mounting bracket flexibility. I didn’t have any issues mounting or even positioning the speakers thanks to the variable diameter and adjustable C-clamp with a near 360-degree capability. I can always position and direct the speakers sideways or straight in the direction I need.
Back to the speaker’s durability, the manufacturer has treated both speakers and enclosures with UV inhibitors. It’s like sunscreen to your body that ensures the speakers don’t break even with prolonged exposure to the sun or salt conditions. It means the speakers can hold up for many seasons on the water.
The sound quality is also top-shelving, and I like the clarity and responsiveness of the Rockford Fosgate M282.
The Rockford Fosgate M282 can handle up to 100 watts RMS and 200 watts of peak power for starters. They’re super strong and loud, easily projecting sound over a long distance. I can hear music from my boat, even when I’m getting towed at speeds.
Secondly, they feature a decent frequency response of 48Hz to 22kHz and 90 dB sensitivity, so you benefit from all the range and power you could want.
I found the Rockford Fosgate M282 to excel in the great mids and pristine highs. They don’t excel in the beefy lows unless you pair them with a powerful subwoofer.
But overall, the Rockford Fosgate M282 is a wonderful pick, especially for those looking for better and louder sounds. They’re a bit more expensive than most, but they’ve everything you would need on a speaker for a great music listening experience.
Pros
- Premium pick
- Durable
- Incredible sound output
Cons
- The beefy lows are distorted
#4 Pyle Dual Marine Wakeboard Tower Speakers - Most Waterproof Tower Speaker
If you need a wakeboard speaker built with complete waterproofness in mind, go for the Pyle Wakeboard Tower Speakers.
They keep banging, regardless of the weather conditions.
All this is due to the careful construction and choice of materials that will stand up the marine use or even poolside use.
A resin treatment sets up these Pyle Speakers as a formidable option when you want to counter the effects of water on your speaker.
And not only that! The perforated grille offers an extra layer of protection against other elements and will keep your speakers going for the longest time possible.
But my greatest attraction to the Pyle Speakers is the sound quality.
With these speakers on board, you can always consider yourself a great host as you provide your host with great music, whether in the ocean or engaging in outdoor BBQ.
Yes, they might look small, but they’re mighty and generate big sounds.
The 400-watt power on the 6.5” dual kit speaker system over-delivers output power and quality sound.
It projects the sound over long distances and will always keep you in the loop even if you’re not in the cabin.
Meanwhile, the 6’5 subwoofers and 1.0” titanium dome tweeter with butyl rubber surround to enhance the overall durability, while the 60Hz – 20kHz frequency response delivers an impressive bass response.
I love how the manufacturer has incorporated the molded ABS plastic basket that keeps the sound crisp, clear, and free of distortion, so you can hear every word of your favorite track.
The smooth design also delivers a consistent sound, which you won’t easily find in other boat tower speakers.
Aesthetics are also on point, at least for me. The sleek, elegant look is amazing and looks great. It adds a touch of flair and elegance to my wakeboard.
Mounting these speakers is equally a breeze, and I love that the package comes complete with everything you need to mount and start listening to your music.
Overall, the Pyle Dual Marine Speaker has some pretty amazing features and will allow you to enjoy the crisp and responsive sound, regardless of where your wakeboarding adventure takes you.

#5 Rockford Fosgate 8" 400W Wakeboard Tower Speakers - Best Value Tower Speaker
Fifth on our list is yet another incredible option that blew away all other wakeboard tower speakers out of the water.
It’s a reliable and durable choice that will last for a long time to come.
The polyethylene enclosures used on these speakers will resist harmful UV rays and other elements such as humidity.
Even better, the speaker has a mechanism for resisting damages from elements such as salt or water.
It’s also corrosion resistant, and doesn’t get compromised from exposure to water or moisture.

Best Wakeboard Tower Speakers Buying Guide
With so many wakeboard tower speakers in the market, choosing the right option for your needs can be a bit intimidating.
But it doesn’t need to be that way.
This is because, in the section below, I’ll share exactly what you need to know about selecting the best wakeboard tower speakers for your needs.
What to Look for in the Best Tower Speakers
Mounting Hardware
Mounting hardware can be different for each type of tower speaker.
While most of them are flexible to some degree, it doesn’t mean they’re universal.
So, you need to pay close attention to their sizing and always double-check their sizing requirements.
The best wakeboard tower speaker should effortlessly fit where you plan to mount them.
Some speakers may need specific brackets for mounting, while others may come with a 360-degree swiveling for your boat.
Value
Depending on your budget, you need to ensure you get as much value as possible for what you can afford.
For example, if on a budget, it also makes sense that you choose only a tower speaker with the most important feature to you.
For example, some users are only concerned with a loud wakeboard, while others pay attention to the audio quality.
Power Handling
Power handling refers to the measurement with which manufacture rates a speaker, or rather how much power it can handle and operate at.
Generally, power is classified into two; peak and RMS.
Peak output refers to the power a speaker can generate in short bursts, while the RMS rating refers to how much power the speaker can handle continuously.
RMS is the most important power rating to consider.
Speaker Sensitivity
Speaker sensitivity refers to the amount of sound a speaker can generate from the amount of power given.
Wakeboard tower speakers with greater sensitivity are more efficient.
Remember, if you’ve a lower-powered sound system, you want a high sensitivity, while a high -power sound system needs a lower sensitivity.
Frequency Response and Range
It refers to the frequencies at which a speaker emits sounds.
It measures soon Hz, and the range can go from low to high. The frequency rating denotes how high or low a speaker can emit sound.
Material and Design of the Speaker
Woofer
The woofer is important when determining the quality and responsiveness of the tower.
Generally, the best wakeboard tower speakers have woofers with lightweight and stiffer materials.
A common material used on the woofer is polypropylenes.
Rubber Woofer Surround
The other important element of the speaker system that affects the sound is the woofer surround.
Free-moving, lightweight, and durable materials are necessary for creating a long-lasting speaker.
This is because the woofer surround can break, crack, or tear from age and use.
But rubber surround can help make a woofer that is long-lasting and high-performing.
Crossovers
A crossover is used for reducing the amount of distortion of your speaker.
Usually, distortion is caused by signals crossing through coated wiring. An external crossover system limits this.
Size
Size is important for your wakeboard tower speakers.
While having speakers that are too small or too large can be an issue, it’s not as much as you think.
The speakers are attached to the wake tower, so the sizing is more visual, depending on aesthetics and what looks good to you.
The wakeboard tower speaker’s greatest asset is flexibility since they’re up in the air.
You can go with whatever size you want, and you don’t have to worry much about the space it will occupy.
But generally, keep in mind that the frequency and bass of a tower speaker are better with the larger speakers, while the smaller speaker offers better in terms of mid and high frequencies.
Water Resistance Vs. Waterproofness
Both of these terms are used interchangeably, but they’ve a real difference.
The water-resistant tower speakers only resist water like rain or spray from ocean splashes. You don’t want to submerge them in the water.
While they may have the ability to get in contact with the surface of the water, they’re created to keep water out completely,
On the other hand, the waterproof marine wakeboard tower speakers come with high seals that don’t let water in.
They’re built to allow complete submersion in the water and will continue working even then.
However, their waterproof abilities can only go for so long on certain water depths. After that, you shouldn’t expect the same protection.
Now, when deciding between waterproof and water-resistant tower speakers, the waterproof option is the best decision.
While you may not have the intent of submerging your speakers in the water, they’ve better protection in case they’re hit and covered with a wave.
Marine Rating
Marne rating refers to the ability of the tower speakers to thrive in marine conditions.
If the tower speakers don’t have a marine rating, they may not survive in the marine environment.
Protection
Usually, the best wakeboard tower speakers are housed in cans to protect them from the marine environment.
It’s recommended that you choose speakers housed in anodized aluminum. Otherwise, the housing may oxidize and corrode.
The speaker covers are also a great way of protecting your speaker tower, but ensure they’re covered with an outdoor poly fabric. It’s three times thicker than regular plastic.
Single Vs. Double Barrel Speakers
Usually, the single- and double-barrel speakers have plenty of resemblance in terms of quality parts, but there’re a few noticeable differences.
With a double-barrel speaker, you get a swiveling mount and a bonus of two speakers instead of one.
The swiveling mount is handy as it lets you face the speakers in different directions to provide a surround sound stereo experience.
